You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Mary and Nick left from the same place at the same time and drove in opposite directions along a straight road. Mary traveled 15 miles faster than Nick. After three hours, they were 315 miles apart. Find the rate at which each traveled.
------
Let Mark rate be x mph
Then Mary rate is x+15 mph
----
They are separating at a rate of 2x+15 mph
------------------------
Equation:
distance = rate*time
315 = (2x+15)*3
105 = 2x+15
2x = 90
x = 45 mph (Mark's rate)
x+15 = 60 mph (Mary's rate)
