You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let her time for hiking in hours = t
and also her time for rafting = t
Let distance hiking in miles = d%5Bh%5D
Let distance rafting in miles = d%5Br%5D
-----------------------------------
given:
d%5Bh%5D+=+3t
d%5Br%5D+=+2.5t
d%5Bh%5D+=+d%5Br%5D+%2B+3
---------------------
By substitution:
d%5Br%5D+%2B+3+=+3t
d%5Br%5D+=+2.5t
By substitution again:
2.5t+%2B+3+=+3t
.5t+=+3
t+=+6
And, since
d%5Bh%5D+=+3t
d%5Bh%5D+=+3%2A6
d%5Bh%5D+=+18
She hiked 18 miles

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
hiking and rafting times are the same

time equals distance divided by rate

(x - 3) / 2.5 = x / 3

3x - 9 = 2.5x ___ x = 18
