If I am driving 55mph, how long would it take for me to travel 5 miles? or ten miles? how is the calculation done?
------------
time = distance/rate
---
t = 5 miles/55 mph = (1/11) hr = (1/11)(60 min) = 5.45 minutes
----------------
t = 10 miles/55 mph = (2/11) hr = 10.9 minutes
-----------------

we start with the unit fraction of 55 miles / hour. But we could also write this as 1 hour / 55 miles.
+1+hr+%2F+55+miles+%2A+5+miles = %281%2F11%29+hr or ~ 5.45 minutes
if we want 10 miles, we get
+1+hr+%2F+55+miles+%2A+10+miles = %282%2F11%29+hr or ~ 10.90 minutes

55 mph means you can travel 55 miles in 1 hour. So using unitary method, you can travel 1 mile in 1/55 hours.
This means you can travel 5 miles in 5 x 1%2F55 =1%2F11 hrs and 10 miles in 10%2F55 or 2%2F11 hours.
Otherwise the formula for time is Distance/Speed (provided the unit of distance is same as the unit distance used to specify the speed).
So for 5 miles the time =5%2F55 hrs.
