Question 254279: A winter storm is traveling at a constant rate of 50 miles per hour. The storm is over St. Louis at 6:00 pm. At what time will the storm hit Indianapolis if the two cities are 242 miles apart? Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! I like this much better than the imaginary cars and trains.
rt=d
50*x=242
Solve for x and add x to 6:00pm
multiply the decimal part of the answer by 60 to get minutes
For example if the answer were 3.25 then you would multiply .25*60 to get 15 minutes
then if that has a decimal do the same to get seconds
So your answer might be something like 3 hours 45 minutes and 40 seconds.
You then would add that to 6:00 to get 9:45:40 pm
