Question 22482: two amtrak trains travelling parallel tracks leave new york at the same time. the speed of one train is 18 mph faster than the other, if the faster train traves 378 mph, in the same time that the other trains travels 270 mph, .Find the speed of each train Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Times are the same for the two trains.
time = distance/rate
Let the rate of the slower train be "x".
Then the rate of the faster is "x+18"
Equation:
time of slower = time of faster
270/x = 378/(x+18)
Work it out. I get x=45mph
