If 300 jellybeans cost you x dollars. How many jellybeans can you purchase for 50 cents at the same rate?
The answer will be a fraction divided by a variable. I will use the variable x but you can use any letter of choice.
Since 300/x = jellybeans/0.50
x(jellybeans) = 300 times 0.50
x(jellybeans) = 150
Divide both sides by x to find jellybeans.
Jellybeans = 150/x
