You can put this solution on YOUR website! An airplane travels 870 miles in 3 hours with the wind. That same plane traveled 690 miles against the wind. How fast was the plane flying and how fast was the wind?
===============
Assuming the 690 miles also took 3 hours:
--------------
Find the 2 groundspeeds, downwind and upwind. The plane's airspeed is the average of the 2.
----
Windspeed is the difference between groundspeed and airspeed.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! .

The problem's formulation is INCORRECT in this post, and with the given data/info, the problem CAN NOT be solved.
It is because the info about the duration of the 690-miles flight (against the wind) absents.
Probably, you wanted to say that the second flight takes THE SAME time as the first one, but actually
it is missed in the post.
So, revise your post and re-submit it to the forum after revising and correction.
If you do it, please do not submit it to me personally.

As a conclusion, accept this my notice:
This phrase "That same plane traveled 690 miles against the wind."
does not carry ANY information related and/or relevant to the problem.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! r, speed of plane without any wind
w, speed of wind
SPEED TIME DISTANCE
WITH WIND r+w 3 870
AGAINST WIND r-w 690/(r-w) 690
All you can find is that the actual speed traveling with the wind was 290 miles per hour. The wind speed cannot be found.
