Question 1110857: Two trains leave towns 1220 km apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels 10km/h slower than the other. If they meet in 5 hours, what is the rate of each train? Answer by ikleyn(52756) (Show Source):
Distance + Distance = whole Distance
5*(r-10) + 5*r = 1220
5r - 50 + 5r = 1220
10r = 1220 + 50 = 1270 ====> r = = 127.
Answer. 127 km/h is the rate of the faster train and 117 km/h is the rater of the slover train.
Check. = = 5 hours. ! Correct !
