: Hi please help me im clueless .... thank you soo muchh
First is this you have to do it with a chart
inside wil say ratextime=distance and the equation inside with the variables.
ok here is the problem
It takes plane 40min longer to fly from Boston to Los Angeles at 52 mi/h than it does to return at 600mi/h. how far apart are the cities.?
THE SECOND IS THIS
It took Cindy 2h to bike from Abbott to Benson at a constant speed. The return trip took only 1.5h because she increased her speed by 6km/h. How far apart are Abbott and Benson?
thank you sooo muchh
i appreciate it i have a test on this tomorrow This question is from textbook
You can put this solution on YOUR website! It takes plane 40min longer to fly from Boston to Los Angeles at 520 mi/h than it does to return at 600mi/h. how far apart are the cities.?
------------------
To LA DATA:
Time = x+(2/3) hr ; rate = 520 mph ; distance = rt = 520[x+(2/3)]=520x+700 miles
----------------
To Boston DATA:
Time = x hr ; rate = 600 mph ; distance = 600x miles
----------------
EQUATION:
distance = distance
520x+700 = 600x
80x = 700
x = 8.75 hrs (time from LA to Boston)
------------
600x = 5250 miles (distance between the cities)
=====================
Note: I changed your 52 mph rate to 520 mph

---------------------
THE SECOND IS THIS
It took Cindy 2h to bike from Abbott to Benson at a constant speed. The return trip took only 1.5h because she increased her speed by 6km/h. How far apart are Abbott and Benson?
thank you sooo much
-----------
To Benson DATA:
Time = 2 hrs ; rate = x kph ; distance = rt = 2x km
----------------
To Abbott DATA:
Time = 1.5 hrs ; rate = (x+6) kph ; distance = rt = (3/2)(x+6) km
---------------
EQUATION:
distance = distance
2x = (3/2)x+9
(1/2)x = 9
x = 18 kph (rate from Abbott to Benson)
2x=36 km (distance between Abbott and Benson)
