Hello!
So, If I travel at a speed of 50 mph, find the time it takes me to catch up to a car traveling at 30 mph that had a 200 mile start.
I know I have to use D=RT but I'm still confused.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If your car moves at 50 mph, and another car ahead you moves at 30 mph in the same direction, then the distance between the cars decreases at 20 mph.
Now apply this formula D = RT, or, even better, T = D/R, to get
T = 200%2F%2850-30%29 = 200%2F20 = 10 hours.
Answer. It takes 10 hours to catch another car.
