You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Convert to minutes:
3*60 = 180 minutes
and 600/400 = 1.5 It takes 1.5 times longer coming back
x+1.5x= 180
2.5x = 180
x = 72 minutes is the fast speed
and
72*1.5 = 108 is the fast speed
72+108=180 minutes and 180/60 = 3 hours of flight total.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +d+ = the distance in km the plane
can fly from its base
Let +t+ = the time of travel for
the trip from the base
--------------------------------
Traveling from the base:
(1) +d+=+600t+
Traveling back to base
(2) +d+=+400%2A%28+3+-+t+%29+
-----------------------
Set (1) = (2)
+600t+=+400%2A%28+3+-+t+%29+
+600t+=+1200+-+400t+
+1000t+=+1200+
+t+=+1.2+
and
(1) +d+=+600t+
(1) +d+=+600%2A1.2+
(1) +d+=+720+
-----------------------------
The plane can fly as far as 720 km
-----------------------------
check:
(2) +d+=+400%2A%28+3+-+t+%29+
(2) +d+=+400%2A%28+3+-+1.2+%29+
(2) +d+=+400%2A1.8+
(2) +d+=+720+
OK
