Question 1025682: A train completes the journey between uptown and downtown in an average of 65 minutes. It stops at three stations which takes an average of two minutes each. If the distance between uptown and downtown is 115 miles, what is the average speed of the train?
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the train travels 115 miles in 65 minutes.

it makes 3 stops with an average of 2 minutes apiece.

the total time stopped is therefore 6 minutes.

this means that its travel time was 59 minutes.

it's speed is therefore 115 / 59 = 1.949152542 miles per minute.

multiply that by 60 and you get 116.9491525 miles per hour.
