Question 881311: 5 consecutive odd integers have a sum of 165
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be the first odd integer.
x + 2 the second
x + 4 the third
x + 6 the fourth
x + 8 the fifth.
add them up and you get 5x + 20
set 5x + 20 = 165 and solve for x.
subtract 20 from both sides of this equation to get:
5x = 145
divide both sides of this equation by 5 to get:
x = 29
the consecutive odd integers are:
29, 31, 33, 35, 37
add them up and you get 165.
