2X + 7
it should equal four times the number decreased by 3 ...
4X - 3
Let's find it!
2X + 7 = 4X - 3
Subtract 2X from each side:
7 = 2X - 3
Add 3 to each side:
10 = 2X
Divide both sides by 2
5 = X
Checking:
2(5) + 7 = 4(5) - 3?
10 + 7 = 20 - 3?
