You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let two numbers be x and y
the difference of two numbers is 3
x-y=3.....1
and the product is 10
xy=10......2

to find out what are the two numbers, solve this system:

x-y=3.....1
xy=10......2
--------------------------
x-y=3.....1...solve for y
x-3=y......plug it in 2

x%28x-3%29=10......2
x%5E2-3x=10
x%5E2-3x-10=0...use quadratic formula to solve for x

x+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+....note that a=1, b=-3, and c=-10

x+=+%28-%28-3%29+%2B-+sqrt%28+%28-3%29+%5E2-4%2A1%2A%28-10%29++%29%29%2F%282%2A1%29+

x+=+%283+%2B-+sqrt%289%2B40+%29%29%2F2+
x+=+%283+%2B-+sqrt%2849%29%29%2F2+
x+=+%283+%2B-+7%29%2F2+
solutions:
x+=+%283+%2B7%29%2F2+
x+=+10%2F2+
x+=+5+
or

x+=+%283+-7%29%2F2+
x+=+%28-4%29%2F2+
x+=+-2+
now find y

x-3=y...plug in x+=+5+
5-3=y
2=y

or
x-3=y...plug in x+=+-2+
-2-3=y
-5=y
so, you have two sets of solutions, and they are:
1.
x+=+5+
2=y
2.
x+=+-2+
-5=y

check first set:
x+=+5+
2=y

x-y=3.....1
+5-2=3
+3=3
and the product is 10
5%2A2=10......2
10=10

the difference of two numbers is 3 and the product is 10. what are the two numbers?

Let the first number be F, and the second S

We can therefore say that:

F - S = 3 ------ S = F - 3 ------ eq (i)
FS = 10 ------ eq (ii)

F(F - 3) = 10 ------ Substituting F - 3 for S in eq (ii)

F%5E2+-+3F+-+10+=0+

(F - 5)(F + 2) = 0

F - 5 = 0, or F + 2 = 0

F, or first number = 5 or - 2

Substituting 5 for F in eq (ii), we find that S, or second number = 2
Substituting - 2 for F in eq (ii), we find that S, or second number = - 5

This means that the numbers are either: highlight_green%285_and_2%29 or highlight_green%28-+2_and_-+5%29
