It's 1000 times as great, 999 times greater.

It's a small difference at 1000x, but it's significant if it's 3 or 4 times.
3 times greater differs from 3 times as great by 33%.
1 time greater has to be 2x as great, or it isn't greater at all.

PS You sometimes hear "100 times thinner..." What does that mean?
If it's 1 times thinner, that's zero.
