Whenever you see "a number" in a word problem use a variable such as x or y.
SO
3 times x is < 2 times x
OR
3x < 2x To solve subtract 2x from both sides
x < 0 So all values of x < 0 would satisfy the equation. In other words any negative value would make the original equation true.
