You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let Frances be represented by f.
You are told john is 10 years younger than frances. so j=+f+-+10
You are also told
j+%2B+f+=+54
%28f-10%29+%2B+f+=+54
2f+-+10+=+54
2f+=+64
f+=+32
Frances is 32 and John is 22.

frances is 10 years older than john, and the sum of their ages is 54. How old is frances?
----------------------------
Equations:
f + j = 54
f - j = 10
-----------------
Add to get:
2f = 64
f = 32 yrs old (Frances's age)
----
Since f is 10 more that j, j = 22 yrs old (john's age)
