Classify the following system of equations as consistent, inconsistent, or dependent WITHOUT using any of the previous methods. Elimination, substitution or graphing.
(3x + 2y = 4 )
( y = -3/2 x – 1)
Put the 1st equation into the slope-intercept form:
y = (-3/2)x + 2
-----------------------------------
So the two equations have the same slope but differenet y-intercepts.
Therefore the system is inconsistent because the left side of each equation
equals a different result on the right side of the equations.
