Question:
Find five consecutive even integers whose sum is 56.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let "n" be the middle number of this set of five consecutive even integers.
Then the numbers are n-4, n-2, n, n+2, n+4.
The condition says that their sum is 56
(n-4) + (n-2) + n + (n+2) + (n+4) = 56
Simplify
5n = 56
n = 56/5 = 11.2.
This quotient is not integer, and it shows that the problem, as it is worded, printed, posted and presented,
simply HAS NO SOLUTION.
THEREFORE, it is no wonder that you spent your time unsuccessfully . . .
ANSWER. As it is worded, printed, posted and presented, the problem HAS NO SOLUTION.
