Answer. 12 m and 4 m.

Solution

Let L be the length and W be the width, in meters.

Then

L + W = 32%2F2 = 16, (1) and
L*W = 48. (2)

From (1), express W = 16 - L and substitute it into (2). You will get

L*(16-L) = 48, or

16L+-+L%5E2 = 48,

L%5E2+-+16L+%2B+48 = 0.

Factor left side

(L-4)*(L-12) = 0.

The roots are 4 and 12.

Only L = 12 satisfies the condition.
