Question 389537: Hi...my cousin asked me to help him with this math problem...
"The metal in the wires of Christmas lights is a combination of copper and lead. The State of California requires a warning label for any product that contains 25% or more lead. The current batch of metal for the wiring consists of 45% lead and weighs 2200 pounds. How many pounds of a 85% copper - 15% lead mixture should be added to avoid placing the label on the lights?"
Oh my...lol...help...lol...thanks...*smiles*

Question 389647: Last one...*smiles*
"Bubble Lights: These old-fashioned lights use the heat from a light bulb to make methylene chloride boil, thus providing bubbles. The company that manufactures these lights can only purchase 100% methylene chloride, but due to the dangerous characteristics of the chemical, they have to dilute it with distilled water to make a 75% methylene chloride solution. Then they add a dye to color the chemical before placing it in the tubes...
A. How much water is needed to dilute 4 gallons of 100% methylene chloride to make the 75% solution?"
I got about 1.333333333333333333 gallons...?
And then...
"B. A gallon of 100% methylene chloride costs $221. Distilled water costs the company $0.17 per gallon. If each bulb holds an ounce of fluid, how much does the company have to charge per bulb to break even?
I wasn't sure if they were just talking about 1 gallon of the 75% solution or the 4 gallons...
So, for the 1 gallon of 75% solution, I got about $1.30...
And for the 4 gallons of 75% solution, I got about $1.60...?
(When I was in middle school, I don't remember ever doing any kind of problems like these...oh my goodness...lol...*smiles*)
Thanks for all of your help! *smiles*

Question 389642: Here's another one...*smiles*
"Egg nog is made by mixing eggs, cream, milk and sugar together. The recipe calls for 3% butterfat milk. Whole milk contains 4% butterfat and skim milk contains 0% butterfat. How much skim milk should be added to 32oz of whole milk to obtain a mixture that is 3% butterfat?"
I got 10.666666666666667 ounces...?
And then the table asks us to list the amount in ounces (whole milk: 32oz...skim milk: x...mixture: x+32) and the amount of non fat for the 96% non fat (whole milk), the 100% non fat (skim milk) and the 97% non fat (mixture)...
What do they mean list the amount of non fat...? Do they mean in equation form like...
whole milk is .04*32=1.28
So 32oz-1.28= 30.72oz non fat...?
Thanks in advance for all of your help! *smiles*
