1) How much of a 4% acid solution should be mixed with a 12% acid solution to produce an 800ml of a 7% acid solution?
2) How much of an 8% saline solution should be added to 600 ml of a 3% solution to produce a 5% solution? Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1) How much of a 4% acid solution should be mixed with a 12% acid solution to produce an 800ml of a 7% acid solution?
let x = amt of 4% solution
The total is to b 800 ml therefore
(800-x) = amt of 12% solution
Mixture equation in decimal form
.04x + .12(800-x) = .07(800)
.04x + 96 - .12x = 56
.04x - .12x = 56 - 96
-.08x = -40
x = -40/-.08
x = 500 ml of 4% solution

Check this, 12% has to 300 ml
.04(500) + .12(300) = 56

2) How much of an 8% saline solution should be added to 600 ml of a 3% solution to produce a 5% solution?
Here is the equation for this, you should be able to solve it
x = 8% solution amt
.08x + .03(600) = .05(x+600)
