Question 921907: I really need your help in solving this problem. I appreciate your time and efforts. Have a terrific evening :) Here is the question?
A perfume is to be mixed in the ratio of 3 drops of pure essence to 7 drops of alcohol. How many drops of pure essence should be mixed with 5 drops of alcohol?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a proportion problem. The ratios are equal. You want to keep NATURAL number values of drops, because a fraction of a drop would be a more complicated mixture in practice.

pureEssence%2Falcohol=3%2F7; your question for 5 drops of alcohol is nonsense unless a dilution first is to be made.

If p is the number of drops of pure essence to use for the 5 drops of alcohol, you would first expect the proportion:
3%2F7=p%2F5
p=3%2A5%2F7
p=15%2F7, but as I explained, this makes poor practical sense. p is 2%261%2F7 drops of pure essence.

The solution could be made accurately enough if you assume 1%2F7 drops of pure essence is very small, and ignoring the fraction will work, and then keep with the 5 drops of alcohol.

.... IN OTHER WORDS, 2 DROPS OF PURE ESSENCE ADD TO THE 5 DROPS ALCOHOL!
