A 60% alcohol solution is to be mixed with a 42% alcohol solution. How many liters of the 60% solution should be used to make 30 liters of a 54% alcohol solution?
--------
Equation:
alch + alch = alch
0.60x + 0.42(30-x) = 0.54*30
-------------------------
60x + 42*20 - 42x = 54*30
---------
18x = 12*30
x = 20 liters (amt. of 60% solution needed)
30-x = 10 liters (amt. of 42% solution needed)
--------------------

Hi
Set Up is letting x represent how many liters of the 60% solution should be used
.60x+%2B+.42%2830-x%29+=+.54%2A30 |Solve for x
.18x+=+.12%2A30
+x+=+%28.12%2A30%29%2F.18
