You can put this solution on YOUR website! Is that the whole of the question? It seems that there is some information missing.
.
If the question is asking for the greatest number of cakes with the same number of cherries as cashews, then it would be 45 cakes with one cashew and one cherry apiece.
.
I think, however, that the answer they're looking for is to use ALL the cashews and ALL the cherries. In that case, what are the factors of 60 and of 45?
60 --{60,1,30,2,20,3,15,4,12,5,10,6}
45 --{45,1,15,3,9,5}
Which is the GREATEST common factor? IOW, what is the highest number common to both? 15.
So he'll be making 15 cakes.
If he makes 15 cakes, how many cashews can he put into each one? 60/14 = 4
If he makes 15 cakes, how many cherries can he put into each one? 45/15 = 3
.
Therefore, each of his 15 cakes will have 4 cashews and 3 cherries.
