Question 791489: The radiator in Michelle’s car contains 16 L of antifreeze and water. This mixture is 30% antifreeze. How much of this mixture should she drain and replace with pure antifreeze so that there will be a mixture of 50% antifreeze? Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source):
Let v = amount to remove and replace, in liters
Let P = current 30% antifreeze
let T = target 10% antifreeze wanted after adjustment
let C = 16 L, radiator capacity and current volume of antifreeze solution present
Note that you add PURE antifreeze which is 100% antifreeze, and you add as much volume of this as the volume of the initial 30% antifreeze which is to be removed.
