A pound of tin is worth $2 more than a pound of copper. Two pounds of tin are mixed with 8 pounds of copper to make bronze that sells for $3.65 per pound. How much is a pound of tin worth?
**
let x= worth of 1 lb of copper
x+2= worth of 1 lb of tin
Weight of mixture to make bronze=2+8=10 lbs
..
8x+2(x+2)=10*3.65
8x+2x+4=36.5
10x=32.5
x=3.25
x+2=5.25
a pound of tin is worth $5.25

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +c+ = price per pound of copper in dollars
Let +t+=+c+%2B+2+ = price per pound of tin in dollars
given:
+2t+%2B+8c+=+3.65%2A10+
+2%2A%28+c+%2B+2+%29+%2B+8c+=+3.65%2A10+
+2c+%2B+4+%2B+8c+=+3.65%2A10+
+10c+=+36.5+-+4+
+10c+=+32.5+
+c+=+3.25+
and
+t+=+c+%2B+2+
+t+=+5.25+
tin is worth $5.25/pound
check:
+2t+%2B+8c+=+3.65%2A10+
+2%2A5.25+%2B+8%2A3.25+=+3.65%2A10+
+10.5+%2B+26+=+36.5+
+36.5+=+36.5+
OK
