Question 63287: a leather jacket has a sale price 0f $102 if the sale price is 0ne third off the orignal sale price what was the orignal price of the jacket Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! We'll let x=original sale price (or original price of the jacket)
1/3 of the original sale price is (1/3)x
1/3 off the original sale price is x-(1/3)x
Now we know that 1/3 off the original sale price equals $102. Our equation to solve is:
x-(1/3)x=$102 or
(2/3)x=$102 Multiply both sides by 3
2x=$306
x=$153 original sale price. I'm assuming that this also equals the original price.
