Total Cost = (Cost per pound)*(Number of Pounds)

Total Cost = (0.40)*(1/4)

Total Cost = 0.10

So it costs 0.10 dollars or 10 cents

Note: Some stores may only charge by the whole number of pounds. So you may have to buy 1 full pound at 40 cents.
