Question 49678: a restaurant chef mixes 20 lb of snow peas costing 1.99 a pound with 14 lb of petite onions costing 1.19 a pound to make a vegetable medley for the evening meal. find the cost per pound of of the mixture. Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x=cost per lb of final mixture
We know that the total cost of the snow peas (20)($1.99) plus the total cost of the petite onions (14)($1.19) has to equal the total cost of the final mixture (34)($x). Thus, our equation to solve is:
(20)(1.99)+(14)(1.19)=34x simplifying, we get
34.8+16.66=34x and
34x=56.46
x=$1.66 per lb
Hope this helps ----ptaylor
