Question 424734: I need for someone to confirm my answer for me. I get so confused with these mixture problems. Here it is and thank you so much in advance:
As a nasal decongestant, doctors sometimes prescribe saline solutions with a concentration between 8% and 25%. In the old days, pharmacists had to create different mixtures but only needed to stock these two concentrations, since any percentage in between could be obtained using a mixture. So suppose an order comes in for an 18% solution. How many milliliters (mL) of the 25% solution must be mixed with 17 mL of the 8% colution to obtain the desired 18% solution?
The answer I get is 24.286 mL of the 25% solution. Can you please, please check this???? Thanks.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

:
I think you are right, the equation
.08(17) + .25x = .18(x+17)
x = 24.2857 ~ 24.286 ml of 25% stuff
