Question 329353: By weight, an alloy of brass is 60% copper and 40% zinc. Another alloy of brass is 30% copper and 70% zinc. How many grams of each of these alloys must be melted and combined to obtain 300 grams of a brass with equal concentration of copper and zinc? Answer by galactus(183) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x=amount of the 60% copper alloy.
Then, we have .60x+.30(300-x)=.50(300)
x=200 grams of the 60% alloy and 100 grams of the 30% alloy.
This amounts to 150 grams of copper. The other 150 grams is zinc. 50/50 ratio.
