Question 326725: 1.) Two helicopters set out simultaneously from heliport 384km apart and flew towards each other. One chopper flew 20kph faster than the other. if the end of an hour and 12minutes they passed across each other, find the speed of each.
2.) Two jet planes departed from the same airport at the same time in opposite flight course, one of the plane averages 500kph, the other is 600kph. How many hours later will they be 5,500kph?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
and hour and 12 minutes is equal to 6/5 hours or 1.2 hours, whichever you like
working with. I will stick with fractions.
Since d=rt, we add the two distances together and between them they equal 384.
%286%2F5%29%28r%2B20%29%2B%286%2F5%29r=384
r=150
This means one is flying at 150 kph and the other at 170 kph.

Again, d=rt. These types of problems are just variations on this small, yet useful, formula.
500t%2B600t=5500
1100t=5500
t=5
