Question 227894: how much water should you add to 150 ml of a 25% salt solution to make the solution 15% salt?
Answer by josmiceli(19441) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let w= ml of water to be added
In words:
(final ml of salt)/(final ml of salt + water) = 125%
Initially I have:
.25%2A150+=+37.5 ml salt in solution
I can now write my equation:
37.5%2F%28150+%2B+w%29+=+.15
Multiply both sides by 150+%2B+w
37.5+=+.15%2A%28150+%2B+w%29
37.5+=+22.5+%2B+.15w
.15w+=+15
w+=+100 ml
100 ml of water needs to be added
check:
37.5%2F%28150+%2B+w%29+=+.15
37.5%2F%28150+%2B+100%29+=+.15
37.5%2F250+=+.15
37.5+=+.15%2A250
37.5+=+37.5
OK
