: ventillating duct
The diameter of a circular ventilating duct is 140mm.This is joined to a square duct system .To ensure smooth airflow,the area of the circle and square sections must be equal.To the nearest millimeter,what should the length x of a side of the square section be?
my model :area of circle = ares of square
3.14*70^2=x^2
I know that this problems should be in a quadratic form,but i am having trouble with this one
Can you help me with this problem please.Thank you very much

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi,
You are absolutely correct.
3.14 * 70^2 = x^2
==> 3.14 * 4900 = x^2
==> 15386 = x^2
Taking square root on both the sides,
124.04 = x
Thus to the nearest millimeter, the side of the square has to be 124 mm.
Good Luck!!!
