Question 125273:
A swimming pool contains 40000 gallons of water. How many gallons of chlorine must be added to "shock the pool" and bring the water to a 37/100 % solution?
I honestly have no idea I thought that you just needed to multiply the two..which would be 148 gallons, but when I enter that it keeps saying incorrect on my online homework. Please help me :(
Thank you,
Aryn

You can put this solution on YOUR website! X=.37(40,000+X)
X=14,800+.37X
X-.37X=14,800
.63X=14,800
X=14,800/.63
X=23,492 GALLONS OF CLORINE NEEDS TO BE ADDED.
NOTE: ADDING THE CLORINE INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF LIQUID IN THE POOL.
