Question 1149902: a trader sales a bag of beans for sh.2,100.00 and that of maize for sh.1,200.00. he mixed beans and maize in the ratio 3:2. find how much the trader should sell a bag of the mixture to realize the same profit Answer by ikleyn(52786) (Show Source):
I will assume that when the trader mixes "x" bags of beans with "y" bags of maize, he gets x+y bags of the mixture.
I specially underline this assumption, because when somebody mixes granular materials, the volume of the mixture
is NOT NECESSARY equal to the sum of volumes of ingredients.
With this assumption, the solution is as follows.
If the trader mixes 3 bags of beans with 2 bags of maize, the cost of the 5 bags of the mixture is 3*2100 + 2*1200 = 8700 sh.
So, to realize the same profit, the trader must sell each bag of the mixture at the price = 1740 sh. ANSWER
