The repeating sequence is 5 numbers. Terms 5, 10, ..., 35, and 40 will all be the last number in the sequence, 1. Then 3 more terms to get to the 43rd term puts you at 9.

ANSWER D

Shortcut: 43/5 = 8 remainder 3, so the 43rd term is the same as the 3rd term: 9
