You can put this solution on YOUR website! Birdseed costs $0.68 a pound and sunflower seeds cost $0.98 a pound. Angela Leinenbachs' pet store wishes to make a 50-pound mixture of birdseed and sunflower seeds that sells for $0.87 per a pound. How many pounds of each type of seed should she use?
--------
Equation:
value + value = value
0.68x + 0.98(50-x) = 0.87*50
-----------
68x + 98*50 - 98x = 87*50
-30x = -11*50
x = (5/3)11
x = 18.33 lbs (amt of birdseed needed)
50-18.33 = 31.67 (amt of sunflower seed needed)
