Equation::
alch + alch = alch
0.2x + 0.35*450 = 0.3(x+450)
-----------------
20x + 35*450 = 30x + 30*450
----
10x = 5*450
x = 225 L (amt. of 20% solution needed)

The equation for the unknown volume "x" is this


(0.35*450 + 0.2*x) = 0.3*(450+x)


It says: pure alcohol amount in the mixture is the sum of the alcohol amounts in the components.


0.35*450 + 0.2*x = 0.3*450 + 0.3*x

0.35*450 - 0.3*450 = 0.3x - 0.2x

0.05*450 = 0.1x  ====>  x = %280.05%2A450%29%2F0.1 = 225.


Answer.  225 liters of the 20% alcohol solution should be added.
