You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
A pharmacist wishes to get a solution that is 5% Minoxidil.
She has on hand 90 ml of a 2% solution and wishes to add some 7% solution to obtain the desired 5% solution.
How much 7% solution should she add?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
pure Minoxidil amt + pure Minoxidil amt = pure Minoxidil amt
0.02*90 + 0.07*x = 0.05*(90+x)
0.02*90 + 0.07x = 0.05*90 + 0.05*x
0.07x - 0.05x = 0.05*90 - 0.02*90
0.02x = 0.05*90 - 0.02*90 = 2.7 ====> x = = 135.
Answer. 135 mL of the 7% solution to mix.
Check. 0.02*135 + 0.07*90 = 11.25 mL of the pure minoxidil.
0.05*(90+135) = 11.25 of the pure minoxidil. ! Correct !
