You can put this solution on YOUR website! the car is rated at 47 miles per gallon, but only gets 43.2 miles per gallon.
it doesn't matter what the car is rated at, since the real world usage of the car is 43.2 miles per gallon.
he should use 43.2 miles per gallon.
the question is:
how far could he travel on 37 gallons of gasoline if the gasoline costs 4.13 per gallon?
this doesn't make sense, since he can travel the same distance on 37 gallons of gasoline regardless of the cost per gallon.
a better question would be:
how far could he travel on 37 dollars if the gasoline costs 4.13 per gallon?
now the distance he can travel depends on the cost of the gas.
you would use 43.2 miles per gallon, since 47 miles per gallon is irrelevant because it doesn't apply in the real world.
if he has 37 dollars, and the cost per gallon is 4.13 per gallon, then he can buy 37/4.13 = 8.958837772 gallons of gas with his 37 dollars.
if he gets 43.2 miles per gallon, then he can travel 43.2 * 8.958837772 = 387.0217918 miles.
you can round the answer to as many decimal points as required.
assuming you rounded to 2 decimal places, then you're talking 8.96 gallons of gas and 387.02 miles.
this assumes you rounded after you did all the calculations.
check your question again and make sure that you understood it correctly.
i suspect they're talking 37 dollars and not 37 gallons.
