Question 129654: My question is an algebra question....An elevator, when full, holds 20 children or 15 adults. If 12 children are on the elevator, howm many adults can still get on? Use an algebraic equaition to solve the problem step by step.....Is this like a proportion type question or fraction of capacity question...I am confuse...Please help...Thank you

Question 129692: Pls. help me with this HW problem. I've tried using the formula, WR x WT = work done, but have not gotten to the correct answer. I used {(1/40 x 20)+ (1/x x 10) = 1}
Reading through the problem I think the answer is 40 but I can't figure out the equation.
The problem is:
Chuck can shovel snow off his driveway in 40 min. He shovels for 20 min. and then is joined by Joan. If they shovel the remaining snow in 10 min., how long would it have taken Joan to shovel the driveway alone?

a. Solve this equation for h.
b. Long's Peak in the Rocky Mountain National Park, is 14,255 feet in elevation. How far can you see to the horizon from the top of Long's Peak? Can you see Cheyenne, Wyoming (about 89 miles away)? Explain your answer.

Question 129832: This is not out of a textbook. The problem is to determine the weight of an object in various places using the following equation: w - Cr^-2, where C is a constant, and r is the distance that the object is from the center of the earth.
a. Solve the equation w = Cr^-2 for r.
b. Supposed that an object is 100 pounds when it is at sea level. Find the value of C that makes the equation true. (Sea level is 3,963 miles from the center of the earth.)
c. Use the value of C you found in the previous question to determine how much the object would weigh in:
Death Valley (282 feet below sea level)
The top of Mt. McKinley (20,430 feet above sea level)
I am totally confused and there are several other parts to the question that I won't be able to do unless I understand these parts.
