Question 1204382: Hi,
So my friends have been going crazy over a problem. I'm not sure of the exact wording of the problem, so if there is a similar version in your mind which makes more sense, please assume it to be the real version. (The way you guys assume that when a student says x + 1 / 2 they mean )
"I have two more sisters than brothers and each of my sisters have two more sisters than brothers. How many more sisters than brothers does the oldest brother have?"
This is a bit of a variation on a similar problem I posted recently. Please walk me through this.
Thank you!!

Question 1204434: On a wall cm wide, Peter is going to hang five pictures beside each other, each measuring cm wide. He will leave cm in between each pair of adjacent pictures. He plans to use two nails to hang each picture and will centre these nails leaving cm between each pair. How far, in cm, from the end of the wall (on either side) will the first nail be placed?

Question 1204512: Find the absolute max and min values of f(x) = 1 + 96x - 2x^3 on the interval [0,5].
I know I need to find the CP.
f'(x) = 96 - 6x^2
6x^2 = 96
x^2 = 16
x = 4 and x = -4
Then I need to evaluate the functions at X=4, X=-4, X=0 and X=5
f(-4) = 1 + 96(-4) -2(-4)^3 = -255
f(0) = 1 + 96(0) -2(0)^3 = 1
f(4) = 1 + 96(4) - 2(4)^3 = 257
f(5) = 1 + 96(5) - 2(5)^3 = 231
So I know the min is -255 and the max is 257 but then when I put it into the problems under "find the absolute maximum of f on the interval" and "find the absolute minimum of f on the interval" I enter in -255 for min and 257 for max and the program says it is incorrect. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Question 1204526: Consider the function f(x) = x-3ln(x), 1/3 <= x <= 9
The absolute maximum value is ___ at x = ___
The absolute minimum value is ___ at x = ___
I know I need to find the CP
f'(x) = 1 - 3/x
1-3/x = 0
1 = 1/3x
x = 3
and there are the end points at 0 and 9
f(0) = 1/3 - 3ln(1/3) = 1/3 + 3ln(3)
f(3) = 3 - 3ln(3)
f(9) = 9 - 3ln(9) = 9 - 6ln(3)
However, I put these answers in and the autograder says they are incorrect and any help is appreciated :)

Question 1204617: A tub can be filled with hot water in 15 minutes, or with cold water in 12 minutes. The tub can also be emptied when the plug is pulled out, in 10 minutes. Farley ran the hot water in his tub for 6 minutes, then both the cold and hot water together for 3 minutes, and then with the two taps still running, he accidentally pulled the plug. How long did it take, in minutes, for the tub to fill after the plug was pulled?
