I'm super confused by this word problem. Here it is:
A man walks 31 miles, partly at the rate of 2 miles per hour and the rest at the rate of 5 miles per hour. If he had walked at the the rate of 5 miles per hour for the same time as he actually walked at the rate of 2 miles per hour, and vice versa, he would have covered 15 miles more than he did. How long did it take him to walk the 31 miles?
Thank you very much!

Question 1128463: retired has been increasing over the last decade. This is?
The percentage of Americans who are retired has been increasing over the last decade. This is causing some concern because health care, social security, and other costs will be the responsibility of a smaller group of people. That is, as the percentage of retired people increases, the percentage of working age people decreases. The following model predicts the percentage of retired people based on demographic data:
R = t/873.36 - 2.15
where R is the percentage (as a decimal) of Americans who are retired in the year t. Use this model to complete the table below.
Year % of Retired People
blank 10%
blank 15%
blank 20%
I tried to rearrange the formula as: t=(R+2.15)873.36
but I'm still not getting the correct answers.

Question 1128462: Lenders such as banks, credit unions, and mortgage companies make loans. The person receiving the loan usually pays the loan off in small payments over a long period of time. The lender earns money by charging interest, which is based on a percentage of the amount that is borrowed. There are different types of interest. Car loans are usually calculated using the formula for simple interest. The total amount repaid is based on the interest and the value of the original loan, called the principal. The formula for the total dollars needed to repay the loan, with interest, is found using the formula
A=P+Pxrxt
A is the amount (total principal plus interest) required to repay the loan,
P is the amount borrowed, the principal,
r is the annual interest rate, quoted as a percent, but used as a decimal in the formula.
t is the time, in years, taken to repay the loan (six months would be 1/2 year).
Suppose you get a loan of $5,000 at an annual interest rate of 4.25%.
A. Use the given information to write the formula for the total amount to be repaid in (t) years. Express the interest rate as a decimal.
b. Complete the table of values that shows the payoff amount after certain amounts of time.
t (years) A ($)
-----------------------
0: ____ ____
4 mo: 1/3 _____
6 mo:___ _____
1 yr: ___ _____
3 yr: ___ _____
6 yr:____ _____
Estimate the maximum time allowed to repay the loan if you want the total payoff to be less than $7,000.
Please help, I've been stuck on this question forever. :( Thank you!

Question 1128635: A bike is traveling at 10 mph. Wheel diameter is 28 in. Determine number of revolutions per min.
Portion of solution with problem-
n revolutions per min.
Wheel travels pi * 28 * n in. in 1 min.
Wheel travels pi * 28 * n * 60 in. in 1 hr.

pi * 28 * n * 60 / (5280 * 12)
pi * 28 * n * 60 / (5280 * 12) = 10
pi * 7 * n / (88 * 3) = 10
n = 10 * 88 * 3 / (pi * 7)

10 * 88 / 7 = approx. 130
n = 120
