Question 1024931: A hockey team plays in an arena that has a seating capacity of
15,000 spectators. With the ticket price set at $50, average attendance
at recent games has been 10500. A market survey indicates that for
each dollar the ticket price is lowered, the average attendance increases
by 100.
(a) Find a function that models the revenue in terms of ticket price.
(b) Which attendance will give the maximum revenue? Justify your
answer
I did ticket=x
amount price is lowered: 50-x
increase in attendence=100(50-x)
attendance: 10500+100(50-x)=15500-100x
revenue=ticket price*attendemce
R(x)=x(15500-100x)=15500-100x^2
i am not sure how to do the second part all i know is if i use x=-b/2a i can find ticket price that maximizes revenue however they are asking for attendance which maximizes revenue. Thanks a lot for your time!

Question 1025255: Information on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is briefly provided below:
‘Eleven men were killed in the 20 April 2010 blowout on the Deep-water Horizon. By the time BP regained control of its well 87days later; the Gulf was fouled by some 4.9m barrel of crude, destroying shrimp and oyster harvests and the tourism season. It was America’s worst oil spill and the civil trial of BP and other companies involved on the Deep-water Horizon had been expected to be one of the biggest and most complex legal proceedings in modern history. Hundreds of lawyers for all parties were involved in preparing for the trial - and in parallel negotiations to try to get a settlement. There were 340 lawyers from 90 different firms working on the plaintiff’s side alone. The deal between BP and more than 120000 victims of the spill - from shrimp boat captains to sales teams at time-share condos, restaurateurs and wedding planners - settles what is arguably the most complicated part of the legal proceedings. But it will not be universally welcomed in the Gulf, where there is a strong undercurrent of opinion that wants to see BP held to account in court in addition to offering financial compensation.’
Identify the four social, environmental and economic indicators (12 in total) that BP might consider in estimating and negotiating its compensation bill for this oil spill.

The following are some selected quotes from senior executives of three different types of companies.
A high technology steel company: “We try to find the best technology, stay ahead of competition, and serve the customer……We’ll make any investment that will pay back quickly ……but if it is something that we really see as a must down the road, payback is not going to be that important.”
A biotech Company: “You cannot really run the numbers, do net present value calculations, because the uncertainties are really gigantic…You decide on the project you want to run, and then you run the numbers (as a reality check on your assumptions). Success in a business like this is much more dependent on tracking rather than of predicting, much more dependent on seeing results over time, tracking and adjusting and readjusting, much more dynamic, much more flexible.”
A Pharmaceutical Company: … at the individual product level – the development of a successful new product requires on the order of $230 million in R&D, spread over more than a decade – discounted cash flow style analysis does not become a factor until development in near the point of manufacturing scale-up effort. Prior to that point, given the uncertainties associated with new product development, it would be lunacy in our business to decide that we know exactly what’s going to happen to a product once it gets out.”
