$200,000 / 7% / 20 yrs / y= -9,734.7x + 218,761
$250,000 / 6.25% / 15 yrs / y= -16,474x + 266,478
1)Use Matrices and the inverse matrix to find when the loan balances will be approximately the same for the two loans before the final payment is made.
2)What will the approximate balance of each loan be at that time?
3)Why might your estimate of the time when the loan balances will be the same be somewhat inaccurate?

In 1990, the life expectancy of females was 78.8 years. In 2001, it was 79.8 years. Let F(t) = life expectancy and t = the number of years since 1990.
a) Find a linear function that fits the data.
b) Use the function of Part (a) to estimate the life expectancy in 2010.
Show your work not just the final answer.
F(t) = mt + c
Substituting the first set of figures, F(t) = 78.8 when t = 0 then, 78.8 = (m x 0) + c : c = 78.8
Substituting the second set of figure, F(t) = 79.8 when t = 11 then, 79.8 = 11m + 78.8 : m = 1/11
a) The linear function: F(t) = t/11 + 78 .8
b) 2010, t = 20 so, F(t) = 20/11 + 78.8 = 1.82 + 78.8 = 80.62 years

Question 383660: Here's the question I am trying to solve:
"In a new study, women like shopping 128% more than men. Men like shopping what percent less than women."
I really think this may be a trick question. I don't think there is enough information to answer the question. Also, if it's a new study, and say 100% of women and men were surveyed, how can 142% like it more...that's over the base of 100%. I've looked at so many formulas trying to figure this one out. I think there needs to be another number in the question to come up with an answer.
I could see if they were comparing it to a previous study and were talking about a 128% increase.
Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Question 51262: In a particular school there are exactly 1000 lockers numbered 1 to 1000. In this school there happen to be exactly 1000 students. One day the math teacher has all of the students line up in the hallway. His instructions are as follows:
"The locker doors are all closed at this time. I would like the first student to go to every locker and open the door. Next, I would like the second student to go to every second locker (#2,#4,#6...)and close the door. Then I would like the third student to go to every third Locker (#3,#6,#9...)and change the current status of the locker door ( if the door is open, close it, if it's closed then open it. Likewise, the fourth student will go to every fourth locker and change the door's status. this pattern will continue until all 1000 students have changed the door status of their appropriate lockers."
after all the students have gone through this process, which of the 1000 lockers will have open doors and which will have closed doors?
The only logical answer I could come up with is locker door #1 will be open and doors #2-1000 will be closed. Is this right?

Question 385413: Andrew factored the expression -30x^3-9x^2-3x as -5x(6x^2-2x-1). But when Melissa applied the distributive law and multiplied out -5x(6x^2-2x-1), she got ; thus, Andrew’s solution does not appear to check. Why is that? Please help Andrew to understand this better. Question 385992: I hope I got the right section. I'm having trouble with "Chemical Word Problems" (that's what my textbook says). The original problem is "One solution was 5% bromide,, and the other was 40% bromide. How much of each should be used to get 60 milliliters of a solution that is 12% bromide?"
The 5% bromide "container" I labelled N. The 40% I labelled D (per the instructions of my text).
What I did: I realized that I have two equations: N+d=100 (according to the textbook)which means that n= 100-d ; So I wrote this: ( ) + ( ) = 100 I plugged "n" into the first paranthes, and d into the second. I turned the percents into decimals (5%= 0.5 and 40%= 0.4). I plugged it in, to get:
0.5(N) + 0.4(D) = (100)0.12 (0.12=12%) Since N=100-D, I replaced N with 100-D to get:
0.5(100-D) + 0.4D = 12 I solved to get 50 - 0.5D + 0.4D = 12 --> 50 - .1D =12 ------> Subtracted 50 from both sides to get ----->-.1DN= -38 ----> divided both sides by -.1 ----> and I got 380. Logically, that can't be, because N+D=100. If D = 380 which is greater than 100... What am I doing wrong?!? I've done other problems of this nature, using the SAME process, and they have all been wrong! Please Help!
