You can put this solution on YOUR website! To paint the gym for homecoming, Senate needs 25 gallons of lead paint and has $141 dollars budgeted for the project. If the blue lead paint costs $5 a gallon and the gold lead pain costs $7, how many gallons of each color of lead paint should they buy. Solve by using a system of equations, show all your work.
Quantity:: b + g = 25 gallons
Value::: 5b +7g = 141 dollars
----------
Modify for elimination:
5b + 5g = 5*25
5b + 7g = 141
----------------
Subtract and solve for "g"::
2g = 16
g = 8 (# of gallons of gold lead paint)
-----
Solve for "b"::
b = 25-g
b = 25-16 = 9 gallons (# of gallons of blue lead paint)
-------
Cheers,
Stan H.
