They had a total of 3.75 gallons to divide 3 ways:
3.75 gal/3=1.25 gallons
Each would get 1.25 gallons
Karen would keep 1.25 gallons and give Lou 1/2 gallon.
James would keep 1.25 gallons and give Lou 3/4 gallon.
Since James gave (0.75gal)/(1.25gal)(100%)=60% of the water,
he should receive 60% or (0.60)($2)=$1.20 of the money.
